Business-Saavy, ARtiSTic People
Some of us are just born "creative types". No matter how hard we try, we just aren't very good at Algebra, and cringe at the thought of having to balance a checkbook.
I am Gerah Dutkiewicz, the founder and manager of Richmond
Creative... as I have gone through life, I've finally come to the
sometimes-difficult-realization that I am one of those types.
So, instead of fighting the
issue and trying to pretend that I enjoy accounting or mechanical
engineering, I then combine my loves
with my business experience, and make a career out of practicing the
things I enjoy and am passionate about.
After experiencing life as an employee in a few different jobs/positions, I've decided that I need a business of my own. I have high standards and don't like to settle for doing a job the way somebody else thinks it should be done. And so, Richmond Creative was born - derived from my maiden name, and the crazy, eccentric, smart and wonderful family named Richmond I come from and who have made me the crazy, eccentric, smart and wonderful person I am today. Smooches, Mom, Dad, and Sister, and smooches to my supportive husband who allows me to follow my wild dreams while he holds down a steady job and pays the bills.
My educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts from Western Michigan University where I majored in Organizational Communication, and a minored in Art.
Since then, I have worked as a Marketing intern for a local Community College, a graphic designer for a publishing company, and a marketing consultant/account manager for a commercial printer/mailing house and marketing firm. I've taught children's art classes and art camps for my area Arts Council, done tons of volunteering, and love writing...
I like to think of myself as a "Creative Inspirational Do-er". I feel that work and life should be balanced and strongly feel that adults should have more fun - life is too short to be dull and boring. I love style, great design, creativity and organization... I love to work with people, I love a challenge, and I settle for nothing less than perfection in a completed project.
My community is very important to me - I am currently heading up a civic movement of sorts to encourage positive change and economic turnaround in the small city where I live. I enjoy getting involved and making things happen.
And then there's THIS guy
THIS is Shane Gillies. I find him quite handy to have around since, well, he's a gosh darn genius when it comes to design and making up clever, funny advertising campaigns. I find that he and I are quite alike, except, well, he's got a mustache and has blue bubbles coming out of his head instead of red ones, like me. Shane owns Fishgill Graphics, a freelance design firm - and although we operate separate companies, we collaborate on projects often. He's another one of those artsy fartsies, and I'm not quite positive if he's bad at math, but I'm assuming he is.
So. Thank you to everyone who has helped, supported, and encouraged me to discover the "Richmond Creative" in me waiting to come out, and thank YOU, there, reading this right now, for visiting my website.
I hope you'll be back. Cheers!
